About GB|FILES SourceLink
Evidence should be transparent, traceable and verifiable.
GB|FILES SourceLink is an independent research platform currently under active development, designed to help journalists, researchers, investigators and members of the public explore publicly available information through original sources rather than relying solely on headlines, screenshots or social media posts.
The project is built around a simple principle:
Evidence first. Opinions second.
Rather than asking people to trust conclusions, SourceLink aims to make it easier to examine official documents, public records and reputable reporting so users can verify information and reach their own informed conclusions.
Our Mission
Public information is often scattered across multiple organisations, websites and documents, making it difficult to understand where claims originate or how public decisions are made.
SourceLink aims to simplify that process by bringing together relevant publicly available information, preserving source provenance and clearly distinguishing verified information from claims that remain unconfirmed.
The objective is not to replace independent research, but to make it faster, more transparent and easier to follow.
Current Features
Although still in beta, SourceLink already provides two core research tools.
SourceRoom
SourceRoom is designed to assist research by analysing publicly available reporting and helping build evidence-led timelines.
- Import publicly available articles and reports.
- Build chronological timelines.
- Identify referenced sources.
- Separate verified facts from unverified claims where possible.
- Preserve links back to original reporting.
SourceRoom is intended to support research while encouraging users to verify important information using the original published sources.
Policy Transparency
Policy Transparency has been developed to make UK legislation and parliamentary decisions easier to understand.
- Import official UK Parliament votes.
- Display official voting records.
- Show how individual MPs voted.
- Display official legislation and parliamentary sources.
- Preserve legislative and date provenance.
- Display verification status and confidence indicators.
The aim is to make parliamentary information more accessible while preserving links back to the official public record.
Our Approach
- Prioritise official and primary sources.
- Preserve source provenance wherever possible.
- Clearly distinguish verified facts from unverified claims.
- Avoid speculation or unsupported conclusions.
- Encourage independent verification.
SourceLink is designed to help users inspect evidence for themselves rather than tell them what to think.
Current Development Status
SourceLink remains an active beta project.
Many features continue to evolve as additional functionality, data sources and verification tools are introduced.
Some sections remain experimental and functionality may change as development progresses.
While every effort is made to improve reliability and accuracy, users should continue to verify important information using the original official sources.
Looking Ahead
Policy Transparency and SourceRoom represent the foundation of a much broader long-term vision.
Future development aims to introduce additional transparency, research and evidence tools that help users better understand public information, government decisions, legislation and publicly available records.
The goal is not simply to collect information, but to make complex public information easier to navigate, easier to verify and easier to understand.
Development will continue to prioritise:
- Accuracy.
- Transparency.
- Traceability.
- Independent verification.
- Ease of understanding.
A Platform Still Being Built
SourceLink is not presented as a finished product.
Every release represents another step towards building a more comprehensive evidence-led research platform.
As new capabilities are developed, they will continue to be integrated while maintaining the project's core commitment to transparency, accountability and evidence-based research.
